One of the best things about staying at Montville Ocean View Cottages us that adventure is quite literally right outside your door. While the views from your cottage might tempt you to stay on the deck with a coffee (or a glass of wine), the surrounding Sunshine Coast Hinterland is also home to some incredible hiking and walking trails. From gentle rainforest strolls to more adventurous climbs with spectacular views, the hinterland has something for everyone. So if you are feeling inspired to stretch your legs and explore, here are a few local favourites worth discovering.
Kondalilla National Park – A hinterland classic
Just a few minutes from Montville, Kondalilla National Park is one of the most loved walking spots in the region.
The star attraction here is Kondalilla Falls, where water cascades dramatically into a beautiful rainforest rock pool below. The walking tracks wind through lush forest filled with towering trees, birdlife, and the soothing sounds of running water.
The walk takes around 1.5 to 2 hours to complete at a leisurely pace.
Mapelton Falls National Park – Big views, little effort
If you lova a dramatic view but prefer a shorter walk, Mapleton Falls is a must-visit. Located about 15 minutes from Montville, the lookout here offers stunning views across the Obi Obi Valley and all the way to the coast on a clear day. It’s the kind of view that makes you stop mid-sentence and reach for your camera.
There are also a few short walking tracks nearby if you’d like to explore a little further without committing to a long hike.
Obi Obi Creek Trail – Peaceful forest wandering
For something a little quieter, the Obi Obi Creek area offers some lovely peaceful walks through subtropical rainforest.
You’ll often hear birds calling through the trees and the gentle sounds of the creek flowing nearby. It’s the perfect place to slow down, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and reconnect with nature.
